faqs about gemstones
For thousands of years, people have used terms like “gem” and “gemstone” to describe objects like rubies and emeralds. However, some find defining a gem quite challenging. Not everyday people with common sense, but people like lexicographers, who need to define each word in our language very precisely. I feel sorry for them simply because no concise definition covers all the materials that have been regarded as gemstones throughout the centuries.
Most gems are minerals, while some, such as pearl and amber, are organics. Living organisms create these materials. By definition, a mineral must be formed inside the Earth. Therefore, pearls belong to a different category. Amber, in the same way, started its life as tree sap. After millions of years, it evolved into a polymer, a natural plastic. Amber has been considered a gem for thousands of years despite not being a mineral.
Within the serene sanctuary of Althea Crystal Retreat, we hold three enchanting gems in high esteem: Rose Quartz, Amethyst, and Celestite. These gemstones are not only celebrated for their exquisite beauty but also for their soothing energies, making them pivotal to the retreat’s tranquil ambiance. Each stone, with its unique properties and hues, has inspired the design and essence of our distinct guest rooms, offering a truly immersive experience for those who seek solace and rejuvenation. Let’s delve into the unique attributes of each of these captivating gems:
Rose Quartz
Often referred to as the “Love Stone,” Rose Quartz is cherished for its soft pink essence, which symbolizes love, harmony, and peace. This gem is a member of the quartz family and is adored for its gentle radiance and calming influence. Rose Quartz rooms at our retreat are designed to envelop guests in a warm embrace, enhancing feelings of love, self-acceptance, and emotional healing. Its Mohs hardness scale rating of 7 ensures that while it is durable, it also softly invites you to open your heart to its tender energies.
Amethyst
A striking member of the quartz family, Amethyst is renowned for its captivating violet hue, ranging from deep purples to lighter lavenders. This gemstone is synonymous with protection, purification, and spiritual elevation. It is believed to calm the mind and spirit, offering a protective shield against negative energies. In the Amethyst rooms, guests are invited to bask in the tranquility of this gem, facilitating meditation, and promoting restful sleep. With a Mohs hardness scale rating of 7, Amethyst combines resilience with the promise of serenity.
Celestite
Celestite, with its heavenly blue crystals, embodies celestial peace and divine energy. This gem is revered for its ability to foster clarity of mind, promote high-frequency vibrations, and connect one to the angelic realms. The ethereal beauty and serene energy of Celestite have inspired our Celestite rooms, designed to be a haven of tranquility and spiritual upliftment for our guests. Although slightly more delicate with a Mohs hardness scale rating of 3 to 3.5, Celestite’s gentle nature invites introspection and cosmic connection.
At Althea Crystal Retreat, we believe in the transformative power of these three extraordinary gems. Rose Quartz, Amethyst, and Celestite not only adorn our space with their beauty but also infuse it with their calming and healing energies. Our rooms, modeled after these stones, serve as sanctuaries for those seeking to connect with the healing power of crystals, offering a unique and profound experience that resonates with the body, mind, and soul.
